Phoenix Bee has performed her original songs for audiences since the mid-1980s. At first, she performed a capella as a musical poet, working poetry festivals and open mics from Hornby Island to Vancouver. She performed at the Gulf Islands Poetry Festival on Galiano Island two years in a row in the early 90s.
Phoenix taught herself guitar to accompany their songs upon meeting Peter Cloud Panjoyah in 1997. They performed and toured together until 2007. The duo self-published an album in 2006 with their band “TreeRoots Revolution.” “Deeper Than Grass” was never officially released but was well received by fans.
Phoenix began to perform as a solo artist in 2007. She played Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, curated festivals, paid cafe gigs, songwriter circles and open mics. She was an active member of both the Nanaimo and Comox Valley Songwriter Circle communities.
In 2023, she was hired as one of the opening acts at the Hornby Festival. Phoenix has been a student at the Hornby Island Blues Camp for the past three years. Since 2011 she hosted a weekly radio show on Hornby, featuring local original music and interviews.
During Covid, she began an album at The Barn Studio with Marc Atkinson. “Late Bloomer” released April 9, 2024.
As a neurodivergent healing from complex trauma, now a senior citizen, she is a proud late bloomer.
